As I reach the end of my writing day, I sometimes amuse myself by making mock-ups of my future book covers. It’s a form of creative visualisation – a Buddhist concept of which Detective Woolf would approve! So here’s today’s mock-up. The actual cover may bear no resemblance to this, but here it is anyway – a kind of homage to the old pulp covers.
I plan to use this website to give various short stories and fun stuff away free, so check back soon, and if you have a moment send me a quick message.
A book unlike any other. Scary, mind-boggling and often hilarious.
This thrilling portrait of a psychopath tells the true story of author Paul Pender’s murderous encounters with charismatic Scottish serial killer Roy Fontaine, the so-called Monster Butler.
At first things go well – then the psycho turns on Pender and threatens to kill him! The author has to change his appearance and lifestyle to avoid the psycho’s clutches. A unique survival story for our times.

This is the second edition, with several new chapters – including new material on the butler’s alleged intimate relationship with Lord Mountbatten.
I’d like to hear your suggestions for the casting of the role of Fontaine in a forthcoming TV/Film adaptation. Who do you see as the monster butler?
